Garrett and Christel are personable, extremely knowledgeable and willing to work with you with a great personal training program. There is no gym in Johnston or Wilson County that can compete with their gym.
Love this gym. Easy 24 he access. Knowledgeable, friendly owners and staff.
Very close by home, open 24 hours a day
The rating scale for this gym doesn't even go down far enough. Poor-fair is overstating my experience there. If I could give it my own rating it would be TERRIBLE. No one should ever sign up there. Seriously, it's worth the 20 minute drive to Smithfield or Wilson. To begin with, my boyfriend has been an internationally certified personal trainer for 5 years... so he knows what he's talking about as far as creating a workout program. Yet every time we went in there, the owner, Garrett, was always trying to condescend to him and tell him that everything he was doing was wrong... like their trainers are any better (eye roll). Excuse me if not everyone wants to use steroids and get unnaturely huge. It literally got so bad that we would only go work out late at night around 10 when we knew they wouldn't be there so we wouldn't have to talk to them. Then a good family friend of ours that worked out there on a regular basis got hurt when he tripped over a step stool that the brilliant trainer had left out in the middle of the aisle. He later found out that he had herniated 2 discs in his back. He mentioned the accident to Garrett, simply to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else, and Garrett flipped out on him saying that the gym wasn't liable for any medical bills and that he had no right to sue anyone. The guy wasn't even trying to get any money for the mishap, he was just trying to prevent it from happening in the future (I guess Garrett is used to getting sued... I'm not surprised). Throughout this incident I found out that the gym doesn't even have the legally required insurance. Apparently they didn't want to conform to the safety rules and regulations required by their insurance company, so they got rid of them. And then the final straw occured just a few days ago. In March we talked to the owners of the gym and told them that we would be moving soon and to cancel our membership beginning in April. April 1st the usual $58 was drafted out of our bank account. Our move ended up getting pushed back so we wrote out a note saying that they had mistakenly drafted us for another month but that we would be there for another month anyway, so we would definitely make April our last month. We moved out of the state a few weeks later, and surprise surprise, come May 1st, the $58 got drafted out of our account again. We called and talked to the brilliant trainer, who told us that she didn't know how to give refunds (surprise surprise), and to give Garrett a call later. So we called Garrett, who after arguing with us for half an hour, basically told us that he would NOT refund our money, even though we haven't been there at all this month. His reason: we never put anything in writing. When we mentioned the note we wrote out addressed to him, he claims to never have gotten it. The best he can do, he claims, is to not draft the money out any more... gee thanks. So we'll see you in small claims court Garrett. Bottom line is... if you want to go to a gym that will bully you, who's trainer is a complete idiot and doesn't know how to use the machines correctly, and will rob you of every dollar they can get their greedy paws on... then by all means, go to Iron Works. If you want a real gym that's not completely staffed with jerks and morons, then make the 20 minute drive to Smithfield or Wilson, because they SUCK.
